Pandamonium explores conceptions of ‘the exotic other’ through the trope of the giant panda. The film explores, through a sense of multivocality, how the images of this animal have been in constant negotiation between political, economic, social, colonial, and not least, emotional forces. These tensions are elicited by diverse sources; London Zoo Archive; Youtube clips; news reports; and live ‘panda cams’. It also includes testimonies from the last person who worked as a head keeper of giant pandas in England.
